Cocoa basics
Cacao trees produce cocoa and used to be an exclusive bean for the Mayans in Mexico during the pre-hispanic era, using it in rituals and special events dedicated to their gods. Aztecs used it to prepare a special beverage called Xocolatl, which seduced spanish conquistadors and opened the doors of chocolate to the rest of the world.
Cacao trees grow only in tropical climates in the equator region. Cocoa pods are the main fruit of the cacao tree and from where cocoa is extracted. It takes a tree five years to produce its first batch of beans, which makes it a high-cost crop. The full cocoa production process is done by hand: planting, irrigating, harvesting, fermenting and drying. Hence, cocoa-based products are a luxurious indulgence.
The nutrients in Cocoa
Cocoa contains high concentrations of polyphenols, powerful antioxidants that help your body fight inflammation, lower blood pressure, and help control sugar levels in your blood.
A form of those polyphenols is flavonol, a substance that manages nitric oxide levels in your blood, improving blood flow, fighting clots and supporting artery health.

Chinese Five-Spice Chocolate
2 sachets ORGANO™ Hot Cocoa
¼ tsp ground cinnamon
¼ tsp clove
¼ tsp ground fennel seed
¼ tsp ground Sichuan peppercorn
¼ tsp ground star anise
1 cup water
1 marshmallow
Pour all five spices and the content of the hot cocoa sachets in a cup and mix.
Warm up water and pour inside the cup. Mix together.
Top beverage with marshmallow and enjoy.
