If you love chocolate and are a chocoholic like most of us, you’ll know that World Chocolate Day is on the 7th of July every year. In fact, you’ll be able to mark it in your calendar right now because it will remain there forever!

The discovery of how to make chocolate can be credited to the ancient Mayans, who were the first to discover the fermentation and roasting of cacao beans as a means of improving their flavor and increasing their sugar content. However, that’s not all they did with them.

They also discovered various ways to add natural flavors such as chili pepper, honey, almonds, vanilla and so much more. Today, we join millions of people worldwide in the celebration by sharing these delicious recipes of some of our chocolate staples.

OG Chocolate Cookies

1 1/4 cups butter, softened

1 cup of sugar

2 eggs

2 teaspoons of vanilla extract

2 cups of flour

1/2 cup of ORGANO Hot Cocoa Powder

1 teaspoon  baking soda

1/8 teaspoon salt

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees. In a large bowl, cream the butter and sugar until smooth. Then, beat in the eggs, one at a time, and the vanilla. Combine the flour, OG Hot Cocoa, baking soda, and salt; stir into the creamed mixture until just blended.

Drop by spoonfuls onto ungreased cookie sheets and bake for 8-10 minutes. Get the trays out and let them cool for a couple of minutes. Enjoy!

Chocolate Muffins

1/2 cup low-fat milk
1 cup all-purpose flour
¼ cup of ORGANO Hot Cocoa Powder
3/4 teaspoon baking powder
pinch of salt
3 tablespoons unsalted butter
1 egg

Preheat the oven to 350 F. Beat together the flour, the ORGANO Hot Cocoa Powder, the baking powder, the salt, and the butter with an electric mixer until you get a sandy consistency and everything is combined. Combine the milk with the egg, and pour mix slowly with the flour mixture. Make sure there are no lumps and that everything is combined.
Spoon the batter into paper cases lined in a muffin tin until each case is two-thirds full. Bake for 20 – 25 minutes, or until a skewer inserted in the center of a cupcake comes out clean.

Dark Chocolate Mousse

1 1/2 cups of heavy whipping cream

1/4 cup of OG Hot Cocoa powder, sifted

2 tablespoons of honey

1/4 teaspoon almond extract, optional

In a mixing bowl whip the cream until frothy and slightly thick. Add the cocoa powder and then the honey. Carefully mix until soft peaks form. Add almond extract if desired. Whip until stiff peaks form.

Spoon the mix into a plastic or piping bag with a piping tip. Pip into serving bowls or glasses. Refrigerate or enjoy immediately!

The world loves its chocolate  and there are many ways to enjoy it! From cakes to cookies and mousse to hot chocolate and more. With so many delicious recipes, you’ll never be bored of this sweet treat!
