If you’re in the process of losing or maintaining your weight, you’ve probably heard a lot about counting calories. Though it is an effective way to achieve your weight control goals, it is essential to know how it works to get the right results without damaging your health. We’ve talked a lot about how our OGX products are so low in calories, but now let us explain to you, why is that beneficial.

What are calories?

Calories are the measure of energy contained in your food and beverages. Once consumed, your body uses this energy to perform its daily tasks. From your vital functions, like breathing and digesting, to your favorite activities, be it reading or running, calories fuel you to perform any action you need or want. More specifically, one calorie equals energy to raise 1 L. of water by 1°C.

How does this affect your weight?

We know that we need calories to literally do everything and it is still important to watch your calorie intake. Why? Because each activity you perform uses a certain amount of energy, and the calories you consumed in your food but didn’t ‘spend’ on any task, are stored in your body as fat. Not all fat is bad, and an average of 20% in your body mass is considered healthy. But too many calories stored as fat in your body and lead to overweight, obesity, and other health problems caused by the fat accumulated in your muscles and liver. In numbers, every 3500 calories correspond to one pound of body fat.

How many calories should you consume?

Each of us has a different caloric intake needs depending on the tasks we perform during the day. Someone active like you, who are living the X4ever Lifestyle, is going to require way more calories than a sedentary person. So depending on your physical activity, your age, body mass, and height, there’s a specific number of calories you spend when inactive, and another particular number of calories you should consume to keep your current weight. If you want to gain weight, you should consume more calories than that last number. If you’re going to lose weight, you should consume less, using the calories stored in your body as fat. How can you regulate your caloric intake?

It might be hard to differentiate the healthy from unhealthy meals when starting a weight control plan based on caloric intake. But with time, you’ll start getting used to judging between foods. Stick to foods low in sugar, like nuts and fruits and seeds instead of candy and whole grain bread over white. Choose lean over fatty meat and avoid fried food. When reading the caloric content in your food, pay special attention to attaching to the portions recommended.

Lastly, remember that counting calories it’s not a diet. Even after achieving your weight loss goals, keep a healthy caloric intake to maintain your weight and general health. Once you get used to it, you won’t even need to keep a journal, as you will now know which are the best meal options for you.  Keep on living the X4ever Lifestyle with our premium OGX line of products that keep you energized with the right number of calories you need to reach your objectives.
