Iced tea: it’s healthy, delicious, and the drink of choice for a hot and humid summer! But did you know that ORGANO™ can make your iced tea even better? That’s right! With these simple tips, you can take your iced tea game to the next level.
Brew your tea the night before
There’s a reason why there are so many recipes for overnight iced tea: The longer it sits in the fridge, the stronger and more flavorful it gets. This is an excellent way to get the most of your ORGANO Red tea, letting the leaves work their magic.
Just brew your tea right in a pitcher and let it cool down overnight out of the fridge. In the morning you’ll find an amazing, concentrated liquid that will work wonders for your thirst.
Our suggestion: do not do this with Green Tea, if you over-brew it the tea will turn yellowish-brown, and will get a bitter and astringent taste that you won’t want to drink. For any green tea beverage, keep your steep time up to 3 min max and let it cool without the bag in the water.
Sweeten with sugar syrup instead of sugar cubes
If you’re a fan of sweet drinks, a better way to give it some sweetness is to make your own sugar syrup, it’s really easy to make and it keeps for weeks. Use it to sweeten all kinds of drinks, from iced tea to lemonade. It’s also a great way to add flavor and depth to cocktails.
Just mix 1/4 cup water + 1/2 cup sugar + 2 tablespoons honey (or agave nectar, stevia, brown sugar or maple syrup), bring to a soft boil until it gets the syrup consistency, the bubbles will tell you. Once it is done, let it cool and bottle it to keep in your fridge.
Add a sprinkle of salt to your tea
A dash of salt can help balance the sweetness of your iced tea, as well as bring out its flavor. Salt also has the advantage of balancing out any acidity in the drink, making it a much better choice than sugar or artificial sweeteners.
If you’re looking to add a pinch or two of salt to your glass, keep in mind that different types of teas will have different levels of acidity (and therefore react differently with the salt). A black tea like Darjeeling, for example, is naturally very acidic and should be paired with a pinch of salt, but not the case with ORGANO Green Tea which is less acidic.
Brew with herbs too
Herbs are an easy way to create your own flavored teas. To make a green mint iced tea, for example, add 2 tablespoons of fresh mint leaves (or even dried for a less intense flavor) to hot water and let steep for about 3 minutes. Then add the resulting liquid to your pitcher of iced tea along with another 1/2 cup of cold water.
Herbs can also be used in other ways:
- Drop them into a tea ball or strainer while steeping hot water in it; then pour in over ice when done brewing
- Toss them directly into the pitcher before adding ice and removing any herbs that float up to top
By now you should be more excited about brewing your own iced tea at home. Not only is it refreshing and delicious, but it’s also incredibly easy to make. Whether you want to go for a classic green tea or something a bit more adventurous like Red Tea, there are tons of options out there for you to try out. Plus, by making your own iced tea at home, you can save some money while ensuring that every batch is packed with flavor and nutrients!
