Coffee; The Beverage – The Legend:

There are many legendary accounts of how our beloved coffee first came to be, but the earliest credible evidence of either coffee drinking (or the knowledge of the coffee tree), appears to be in the middle of the 15th century in the monasteries around Mokha, in Yemen. Yemeni traders brought coffee back to their homeland from Ethiopia and began to cultivate the seed, and the rest, shall we say…. Is History!

How the Cold Brew Became the Hot New Thing:

Legend has it – Mazagran (a cold, sweetened coffee beverage that originated in Algeria circa 1840), has been described as “the original iced coffee”. It was prepared with coffee syrup and cold water. Frozen coffee beverages, similar to slush, were first enjoyed in the 19th century and often called “café frappé (à la glace)”. However, it was the French that provided the earliest example of a coffee concentrate served cold to the French Foreign Legion solders at the Mazagran fortress in Algiers, in a manner similar to the iced coffees of today – allegedly!

Take comfort in these cool recipes, and chill out with your favorite OG Gourmet Beverages – Over Ice!  

ORGANO™ Liquid Dessert on Ice

  • 8 oz of any ORGANO™ Brew (Chilled)
  • 3 Tablespoons of Almond, Coconut or Skim Milk
  • 1 Teaspoon of  Pure Vanilla Extract

Sweeten to taste, then literally “shake it up”  until all of your ingredients are nice and frothy, pour over ice cubes and add a drizzle of chocolate syrup to delight the crowd.

Frozen Frappe à la OG

  • 2 Cups of Frozen ORGANO™ Coffee Cubes (made from your favorite OG Brew)
  • 3 Tablespoons of Almond, Coconut or Skim Milk (or Fat Free Creamer)
  • 1 Teaspoon of  Pure Vanilla Extract  (Hazelnut or Peppermint Extract  are Tasty Too)

Blend: All ingredients together in a blender, until the frosty mixture is combined to the right consistency.  Finally pour in a tall glass, sprinkle with coco powder or a dollop of whipped cream ( if you dare).

And, there you have it – talk about whipping things into a frenzy with decedent results – a cold brewed gourmet coffee beverage that rivals any coffee house offering. In other words, a cold, creamy, bold and delicious cup of coffee is just a sachet or single serve brew cup away!
