In today’s fast paced world, do you ever feel like you could use an extra day? Well, today is your day, because it’s February 29th and 2016 is a Leap Year! When is it and why does it happen, you ask? Join ORGANO™ as we explore the ins-and-outs of Leap Year 2016!

The Earth’s Orbit & The Leaping Year: Leap year occurs for the purpose of synchronizing the Gregorian calendars year with the solar year. The solar year is the amount of time it takes the earth to do a full orbit of the sun. A complete orbit of the earth around the sun takes exactly 365.2422 days to complete. However, the Gregorian calendar uses 365 days. So, to make up the time difference an extra day is added to the calendar every four years, as a means of keeping our clocks (and calendars) in sync with the Earth – and its changing seasons.

A Battle of The Egos & The Extra Calendar Days: With the exception of February, every other month in the “Julian” calendar has either 30 or 31 days, because long ago – February lost out to the ego of Roman Emperor Caesar Augustus. Under his predecessor Julius Caesar, February had 30 days (and the month bearing his name), July had 31 days and August had only 29 days. When Caesar Augustus became Emperor he added two days to ‘his’ month to make August the same as July. So, February lost out to August in the battle of the extra days, and the egos – allegedly!

Leap Year Babies & What Are The Odds of That: The chances of having a leap birthday are 1 in 1,461, and for those who beat the odds and were born on February 29th, they are referred to as “leaplings” or “leapers”. In non-leap years, many leaplings choose to celebrate their birthday on either February 28th or March 1st, while some suggest those born before midday on February 29th should celebrate their birthdays on February 28th, and those born in the afternoon and evening of the 28th should celebrate their special day on March 1st. If you are a leaper, you can decide when to celebrate, but Pisces is your zodiac sign and amethyst is your birthstone. Either way, embrace this fact that you beat the odds!

As the company the brings the treasures of the earth to the people of the world, and as a Global Family, at ORGANO™ we believe that those things in life that come with rarity, should be cherished and revered. An extra day in the year to enjoy one (or two) more cups of your favorite OG Brew, an extra opportunity to take another bite out of life, and perhaps get an extra hug, kiss from – or share a laugh with – someone you love today – now that is cause for celebration!

Make your Extra Day and Leap Year ONE to remember! #TasteTheGold
