Also known as “World Peace Day” and devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace, both within and among all nations and people, it’s International Peace Day. ORGANO™ applauds the theme of this year’s  commemoration “Partnerships for Peace – Dignity for All” which aims to highlight the importance of all segments of society to work together to strive for peace.

A Day Devoted to Peace

Established in 1981, by resolution, the United Nations General Assembly declared an International Day of Peace to be observed around the world each year on September 21st.  Furthering the Day’s mission, the UN voted unanimously to establish this day as an annual day of non-violence and cease-fire. September 21, 1982 was the first occurrence of the International Day of Peace. The theme of the first International Day of Peace was “The Right to Peace of People.”

“I call on all warring parties to lay down their weapons and observe a global ceasefire.
To them I say: stop the killings and the destruction, and create space for lasting peace.”

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon

The work of The United Nations would not be possible without the initial partnerships that were active in its creation and the thousands of partnerships each year between governments, civil society, the private sector, faith-based groups and other non-governmental organizations that are needed to support the Organization in achieving its future goals, specifically the absence of war and violence. The United Nations invites all nations and people to honor a cessation of hostilities during the day, and to otherwise commemorate the day through education and public awareness on issues related to peace.

Join millions of people around the world as they participate in activities, events, concerts, and festivals to celebrate the International Day of Peace.  It can be as simple as lighting a candle at noon, sitting in silent meditation, or doing a good deed for someone you don’t know. Or, enjoy a moment of peace for yourself with your favorite ORGANO™ beverage!
