Everyone at Organo Gold is incredibly excited about our second annual OGlicious Recipe Contest. After the overwhelming success of last year’s inaugural contest, we just know that this year, OG fans worldwide are going to take their culinary creativity to the next level. Delicious looking and sounding entries are already pouring in!

We try not to encourage competitiveness in the OG Family — we are all about community, and working together. In fact, all of last year’s submissions inspired us to create the OG Holiday Cookbook of 2013. All proceeds went to the OGCares Foundation. We will be creating an updated cookbook from this year’s entries.

Of course, there are many “winners”in this contest — not least the entire OG community, because we all have the opportunity to read and try our hand at some of the creative culinary wonders our fellow Distributors have whipped up. And with OG’s wide range of products are their disposal, entrants are going to have trouble deciding which to use first! (Last year many OG cooks submitted multiple entries, which we heartily encourage!)

As you know, recipes entered into the OGlicious contest must feature at least one Organo Gold product in the ingredients, and that product package must be placed somewhere in the shot of the final dish for entry. Here are some great tips from professional food stylists on how to make your OGlicious entry look like it was plucked straight from a stylish cookbook, or the pages of a gourmet magazine.

1. Use less food than you normally would

While it may seem more generous to serve plates piled high with food, an over-crowded plate can look less appealing than a minimalist spread. Think about how you can use the white space of the plate to frame your dish.

2. Use paper to add texture to plates

Lining plates with parchment or baking paper when photographing your final dish helps to add another element of visual interest, plus it can help soften the lines of your plates.

3. Look for contrast with backgrounds

There are times when white-on-white can be visually striking, but contrast tends to result in better looking photographs. So a pale colored food and plate gets a dark background, where as a vibrantly colored dish tends to be best with a simple white background.

4. Choose simple crockery and tableware

While decorative plates and table-settings are beautiful on their own, they can detract from the visual impact of the food. Plain plates, especially classic white, allow the food to be the star.

5. Remember to take some work-in-progress shots

It can be easy to focus on getting the final plated-up food shot and miss out on some great opportunities along the way. Try taking a few shots during the preparation and cooking process.
