Organo Gold is all about having a healthy lifestyle, and competitors in the Universiade event currently taking place in Granada, Spain represent the epitome of the winter sports lifestyle. Granada is playing host to the thousands of participants in this competition through February 14.

So what is Universiade? Previously known as the Winter Student World Championship, it is an international multi-sport event, organized for university athletes by the International University Sports Federation (FISU). The name was devised by combining the words “University” and “Olympiad”. The event has over 100 years of history, and its last staging, the Winter Universiade of Turkey, saw over 3,000 students participate.

Like the Olympics, there is both a summer and a winter version of the games. The winter event sees thousands of student athletes gather to compete in a range of sports, including alpine, cross-country and freestyle skiing, snowboarding, ski jumping, figure skating and speed skating, curling and more. Universiade is open to competitors between the ages of 17 and 28 (in the years of the games) who are full-time post secondary students or have graduated from a post secondary institution within the previous year of the event.

Granada’s stunning Sierra Nevada mountains provide the stunning backdrop and challenging slopes for skiers and snowboarders, while the historical buildings and monuments dotted all over the province of Granada offer many sightseeing opportunities for visitors to seek out between viewing Universiade competitions.

We’d like to wish all participants good luck in their events — we’ll all be cheering them on heartily from afar with a steaming hot cup of Organo Gold Gourmet Hot Chocolate in our hands!
