In today’s technology there are so many ways to contact people that we’re losing track, from Social Media to Instant messengers, the degrees of separation are getting smaller and smaller ever since the introduction of the internet.

One of the oldest marketing tools since the beginning of the internet has been the email and it is as relevant today as it was 20 years ago.

Here are some things you need to do before you can start emailing your prospects.

Get an Email account

Whether it is a free account from Google, Yahoo, Hotmail or a paid account from your own domain, you can’t start sending messages to promote our wonderful products without one. Make sure your email address is professional and represents your business. Use that account strictly for business and create a separate one for your personal needs.

Find the best email marketing software for you.

In order to send your messages you are going to need to get your hands on a platform that makes it easy for you. There are plenty of tools out there for every budget, from free to use to over $1000 per month.

How do you know it meets your needs?

Well, first take a look at how many emails it allows you to send per month, is there a subscriber limit and how well it integrates with social media, blogs and other internet tools.

Some example of email marketing platforms are:

Constant Contact
Aweber
Mailchimp
Infusionsoft
Streamsend

Build an Email List

Until you have a list of emails you can’t start marketing your services. Some of these email platforms allow you to integrate them as an app on Facebook. Some, are able to be integrated as a form on your website or blog. The goal is to put the sign up forms in a place where there is a lot of traffic and give people an incentive to sign up. For example: you may choose to place a sign up form on your blog that gets a lot of visitors and ask them to subscribe to your blog.
